You and I have many things in common. We have both taken a big step. We have accepted an important position for 2003 in JCI at the local, national or international level. We have both said to our fellow members that we want to be a part of making JCI bigger, better, more well-known and more influential throughout the world. At the end of the year we will be judged, not by what we promised to do or how many ideas we had, but what ideas we made happen.

Of the many things we share, perhaps the most important is our challenge of making JCI more relevant and meaningful to the young leaders and entrepreneurs of today. In 2003 we must not only communicate our JCI story to more people, but we must also do it in a way that best connects with young adults, particularly those under the age of thirty years. Those young men and women are the ones who will be the leaders of our organization five years from now. They are JCI’s future. They are JCI’s hope. As I have surveyed the state of JCI around the world, the most consistent challenge facing JCI local and national organizations today is the challenge of more effectively reaching that age group.

Many of us, including me, have big and grand dreams for the future of JCI. If we will work together, side by side, shoulder to shoulder, arm and arm and really believing that the best ideas for the future of JCI can come from any Member, regardless of their experience, rank or position within the organization, there is no limit to our potential in 2003.

Please accept my invitation to be more in 2003 than a local, national or international JCI leader. Please accept my invitation to also be my partner in making 2003 more than a fairy tale for JCI, but a dream come true.
