The deadline for entries into the 2003 JCI Best Business Plan Competition has been extended to September 15, 2003. The Best Business Plan Competition is an excellent avenue for young entrepreneurs to realize their dreams.

In Cape Town, South Africa, 2002 JCI Best Business Plan Competition winners (Non-Profit category) Natalie Murray, Janine De Rabeiro, Tami Jantsch and Fatimah Boltman are able to help children suffering from HIV/AIDS, improving the quality of life for them and their families.

The women won for “The Beautiful Gate Partnership Project” in which Junior Chamber Cape Town and Beautiful Gate Crossroads, a local orphanage for children suffering from HIV/AIDS, join the fight against HIV/AIDS with a grassroots approach to overcome the epidemic and contribute to the global effort to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS on society.

The partnership aims to implement a social and educational activity calendar for the children and staff of Beautiful Gate Crossroads and to raise the awareness of HIV/AIDS by promoting the partnership as a model for other organizations to follow.

Do you have an innovative business concept? Enter your idea in the 2003 JCI Best Business Plan Competition. There are two award categories for this competition: “Business” for profit-oriented business plans and “Social Entrepreneur” for nonprofit plans.

To enter, each participant must submit an entry form, an executive summary, and a business plan for the creation of a new enterprise, endeavor, or social activity to create positive change. Entries will be accepted only when the three documents are submitted, either through the National Organization if a National Best Business Plan Competition is conducted, or directly to JCI.

All entries must be received by JCI no later than September 15, 2003. Nominations from National Organizations running a Best Business Plan Competition will be limited to the semifinalists (winners of the national program) whose documents are submitted by the respective organization.

A panel of judges will select two finalists and one winner in each of the two categories, keeping in mind the ideals of JCI and its focus on creativity, quality, and contribution to achieve positive change.

Finalists and winners will be honored with a plaque at the 2003 JCI World Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark. Additionally, each of the two winners will receive one free airline ticket to attend the World Congress on November 3-7, 2003, five-day accommodations at the headquarters hotel in Copenhagen, one free Congress registration, and a US$5,000 cash award of start-up funds for launching the business described in his or her winning plan. (All participants must be willing to be present at Congress if selected as winners.)
